We had a good breakfast in the great big room of the Sanatorium (great views) and left to go do some more mountain riding. The endless beautiful scenery and curves continued.
Nothing beats a morning motorcycle ride in a new country. The anticipation of the unknown is very exciting. Pure joy. And when combined with a good cappuccino, good music, and speed in tight roads in beautiful mountains time stops and you find yourself fully present.
After loading gas and a quick stop for coffee, we headed to the fortified village of Almeida ... Armando's namesake village. This village has been occupied by Moors, Romans, Christians, Spaniards. Lots of history. The present fortifications date from 1641.
After lunch in Almeida, we headed to the wine country of Portugal. Endless steep and terraced mountains and valleys full of vineyards. Incredible geography.
Tonight we are staying in the middle of the wine country at the Quinta da Terrincha, a winery with great accommodations, a great restaurant, and great gardens. A great place to rest our soar bones and muscles.
Tomorrow, we are riding one of the "best motorcycle roads" in the world (the N222) to Porto.
